Jadon Sancho should not join Chelsea because there is no guarantee he would start for the Blues, claims Liverpool legend Steve Nicol. Express Sport understands Sancho is a target for Chelsea, though Borussia Dortmund would want between £100million-£120m for the England international. But Nicol thinks it would not be a wise move for the 19-year-old, as he would have to compete with Chelsea trio Christian Pulisic, Calum Hudson-Odoi and Mason Mount.

“Listen, the fact that Jadon Sancho might leave Dortmund I think is a huge possibility,” Says Nicol

“I just can’t figure out why it would be Chelsea. You’ve got Pulisic, you’ve got Hudson-Odoi there, you’ve got Mason Mount - why are you bringing this guy in? It makes no sense.

“If I’m Jadon Sancho and I’m looking at Chelsea, I’m asking myself one question: ‘Am I going to go to Chelsea and start?’.

“So, he isn’t leaving a place where he is playing to go somewhere and try and fight for his spot.

“Now, not that there is anything wrong with fighting for a spot, but do you choose a place where there’s a possibility you’re not playing?

“That makes no sense whatsoever. Sancho’s not a long-term guy now - he needs to play.”

But former Chelsea midfielder Joe Cole does not think his old side need a striker to replace top scorer Tammy Abraham.
